What We Will Cover:

Character work is about so much more than creating an interesting voice.

For Micaela, one of the biggest hurdles facing aspiring voice actors happens before they ever open their mouths: mindset. If the actor’s mind isn’t aligned with the work, it shows up in the audition — in the choices, the confidence, and the performance.

In Beyond Doing Voices, Micaela will dig into what she listens for from the other side of the desk and challenge actors to approach character copy with a stronger point of view, greater specificity, and the confidence to make a choice that doesn’t sound like everyone else.

All participants will work from the same character copy, giving the class a unique opportunity to hear how completely different performances can emerge from the exact same material. Micaela will lead a discussion, hear students read, and provide live coaching and direction designed to help actors make bolder, more individual choices.

The workshop will conclude with a Q&A with Micaela, giving students the opportunity to hear directly from one of the industry’s most experienced voiceover agents.

About Micaela Hicks

With more than 25 years in the voiceover industry, Micaela Hicks has built a career not only representing talent, but developing voiceover departments and helping actors build careers across commercial, animation, video games, interactive, promo, and beyond. She began her agency career at SBV, working her way from receptionist to scheduler and booth director before assisting in the animation department. Her career would go on to include leadership and agent positions at Osbrink, Solid Talent, Atlas Talent, and VOX, Inc.

At Solid Talent, Micaela built its commercial, animation, and video game voiceover departments from the ground up. She later joined Atlas Talent, working heavily in commercial VO while also handling animation, gaming, promo, trailers, and political work. Her passion for character and interactive work ultimately led her to VOX, Inc., where she became a leading force in animation and video games.

Throughout more than two decades on the agency side of the business, Micaela has built longstanding relationships with producers, casting professionals, advertising agencies, creatives, and industry leaders across major markets. That extensive network, combined with years of developing and representing talent, gives her a uniquely connected perspective on what buyers are looking for and what makes an actor stand out.

Today, Micaela is the Head of Voiceover at Eris Talent Agency, where she continues a career built around finding and developing actors with something distinctive to bring to the microphone. Throughout more than two decades in the business, she has become known for seeking talent who bring fresh choices, unique perspectives, and individuality to their auditions — exactly the qualities she’ll be exploring in this workshop.
