This class is designed to meet working actors where they are. Each week, students can choose to work on Mark’s assigned commercial copy or bring in a current commercial audition they’ve received from their agent to coach in class. Continue building your skills while applying the work directly to the opportunities already coming your way.

What We Will Cover:

  • Bring your real-world auditions into the classroom. Each week, choose between Mark’s assigned commercial copy or a current commercial audition from your agent and receive individualized coaching before you submit.
  • Get vital insights and tips on what casting directors and advertising producers are listening for in a great read, as well as common pitfalls and mistakes many actors make in their auditions.
  • Get substantial on-mic time to gain the training needed for building confidence and preparedness in callbacks and producer sessions.
  • Dive deeper into honing your special skills and strengthening your weaknesses.
  • Work on an extensive variety of commercials and learn how to “own” the copy across a multitude of genres.
  • Receive in-depth one-on-one coaching and direction focused on fine-tuning your reads.
  • Sharpen your commercial voice-over “ear,” essential to mastering the skill of self-directing through hands-on experience.
  • Master the techniques needed for successful cold reading when the pressure is on and there’s no time to rehearse.
  • Expand your repertoire by broadening your vocabulary of delivery styles and attitudes to demonstrate your creativity behind the mic.
  • Learn how to allow your unique, authentic self to shine in your auditions with the goal of being memorable to casting directors and agents.

Mark Sweeney is a 20+ year veteran of the voiceover industry. Mark has lent his expertise to nearly every part of the voice acting process, from award-winning commercial voice casting to recording some of the most recognizable voices in the world.

He began his career as a commercial editor on hundreds of award-winning audio trailers before becoming a VO Booth Director for a prestigious bi-coastal theatrical talent agency, directing voice actors, celebrities, and comedians daily. From there, he went on to commercial voice casting with Sound & Fury Casting, where Mark’s experienced ear was essential to identifying burgeoning voice talent and directing actors to deliver best-in-class performances.

As a teacher and coach, Mark shares his casting director insights with an emphasis on self-directing grounded reads that are connected to the message while highlighting the unique personality behind the voice.
